The blue-and-gold macaw (Ara ararauna) is a large South American parrot that inhabits tropical forests and savannahs. Its diet includes fruits, berries, seeds, nuts and flowers. They can live 30 to 35 years in the wild and mate for life. Females usually lay 2 or 3 eggs, but the dominant chick is the only that survives.
