I saw a show the other day where they were talking about how elephants view their heard and their fellow elephants as superior/ more important than people, and that’s why groups of elephants with a dominant elephant aren’t as easy to control. They’ll always listen to their smartest strategist instead of the tiny little person that they could trample.
They talked about this as though it was this whimsical funny thing, like elephants are silly for thinking that way!
People think they as a species are more important than EVERYTHING. Why is it so funny to believe that one animal might think themselves superior to a smaller one when we as a species have literally believed for an unfathomable length of time that a god who somehow looks like us, told us he made every other species for us to eat (even when there’s proof that most of them exited for thousands of years before us, but you know, that’s none of my business).
The human ego, both as an individual and abstract concept is honestly staggering. It’s as amazing and ingeniois as it is hilarious and ridiculous.
