To join the fight to strengthen animal cruelty laws in 2012

This is a petition to stiffen animal cruelty laws. It is time to end these one year (at best) joke sentences that exist in most states.

It is clear that individuals who deliberately harm animals are sociopaths without a conscience. These individuals almost invariably move on to human victims. The maltreatment of animals should not be treated as a misdemeanor offense with laughable penalties. It should be a felony carrying the same penalties as a similar crime committed on a human victim. These people should be jailed for long periods so they cannot harm any more innocent victims, either human or animal.
