Crazy Cat Lady Stereotype

Can you believe that I have a problem with this graphic? Isn't it like, totally positive and stuff?

Well--actually, no.

The "crazy cat lady" profile is rather sexist and it is also unfair to assume that everyone who likes cats has mental issues. However we as a society tend to ostracize and belittle the elderly and the mentally ill. I personally am lonely and socially awkward because I am mentally ill and don't much care for the attitude of "I'm not one of THEM!!!!" that a lot of people have about those of us who live with mental illness. Perhaps we wouldn't be quite so socially awkward if we were treated with a little kindness rather than mocked and looked at as subhuman.
