Post #60: Our Friend the Amoeba

Amoebas live in water and in the bodies of other organisms. Although some of them are problematic and can cause illness if they are ingested by animals, for the most part they are helpful. They control algae levels in bodies of water. They feed on bacteria and decaying plant and animal matter, and they provide food for creatures that feed on plankton.
