Animal ACTion Network, Morgan Carroll, Rollie Heath: Ban cat declawing in the state of Colorado
The declawed cat that my son adopted from the humane society was lucky. His paws healed well and he has no residual pain or problems using the litterbox. Note that my son did NOT have this cat declawed. It was already declawed when adopted.
This cat’s previous people were assholes. They dumped the cat at the humane society when he exhibited normal cat behaviors such as hissing when they brought home a new cat. These people should not be allowed to have a plushie, let alone a living, breathing animal.
Giorgio is a very gentle cat and now has a good home. Many declawed cats don’t fare near as well as he did. Sometimes they even end up having to be put to sleep due to complications from the procedure.
Declawing a cat is akin to hobbling a human. It is a cruel and unnecessary surgery.
